After Receiving the DS-2019
Upon receiving the DS-2019 form from ISGSS to apply for the J-1 visa, the scholar must:
- Review, print, and sign their DS-2019 on the bottom of Page 1 (electronic digital signatures are now accepted 鈥� make sure you follow instructions carefully)
- Visit and pay their SEVIS Fee (Form I-901)
- Visit the website of their closest U.S. Embassy or Consulate, complete Form DS-160 (nonimmigrant visa application), pay visa fee, and book appointment
- Check for any restrictions impacting their U.S Embassy/Consulate
Upon receiving the visa, the J-1 scholar must:
- Work with Host Department and ISGSS to find housing, plan for arrival, schedule Orientation, and ensure compliance with insurance regulations.
- Plan to arrive within the 30-Day Grace Period before their DS-2019 Start Date. Note that they cannot begin their actual work or study until their printed Start Date.
