Published: October 22, 2018.
Celebrate the Illinois Bicentennial with a look at historic homes in Illinois. A panel of historians will address the range of stories that are told at nearby sites during the James P. ’60 and Mary C. Sczepaniak Lecture at Â鶹¸ßÇå in Romeoville.
“At Home in Illinois: the View from Historic Houses” begins at 12:30 p.m. November 1 in the University Dining Room on Â鶹¸ßÇå’s main campus in Romeoville, IL. The event is free and open to the public.
The panel includes Kelly Kloubucher, president, A Muse Consulting; Scott Mchaffey, executive director, Farnsworth House; and Donna Sack, vice president for community engagement and audience, Naper Settlement. Dennis H. Cremin, professor of history, Â鶹¸ßÇå, will serve as moderator of the panel.
The conversation will be informed by Frank Vagnone and Deborah Ryan’s book, “The Anarchist’s Guide to Historic House Museums” (2013). The authors assert that historic houses need to find new ways to reach out to museum visitors.
