Naper Settlement Internship Provides Real Life Lessons

Skyler Wurst of Romeoville, Ill. spent his fall semester working with the curatorial staff at Naper Settlement gaining experience and knowledge to further his career.
“I learned more about how museums operate their day-to-day activities than I could have hoped for,” commented the . He is working in the Public History track within the History Department.
Naper Settlement has provided Naperville with access to their local history since 1969. Wurst worked closely with Louise Howard, head curator, Sarah Buhlig, registrar, and Bryan Ogg, curator of research.
Wurst worked in the library and vault of Naper Settlement in the Preemptions House. The third year Â鶹¸ßÇå student began his internship with digitizing photographs. Finally, he assisted the Settlement set up their annual “Christmas Ornaments from Around the World” exhibit, by aiding in the creation of the German Christmas Tree display.
He also joined the many volunteers in giving tours inside the Martin Mitchell Mansion during Naper Settlement’s first ever Christkindlmarket.
The experience will be helpful as he starts a new role on the Â鶹¸ßÇå campus this upcoming semester. As a student employee, Wurst plans to assist with the .
